A Statesboro woman charged last week with killing her father confessed to the murder, and hid the victim's body in a closet for months before dragging him into the woods behind their Palmetto Court Apartments home.
Statesboro Police Chief Mike Broadhead confirmed reports that Melissa Sue Kenimer, 38, killed 58-year-old David Kenimer and wrapped his body in a sheet and plastic bag before stuffing him into a closet.
Bulloch County Coroner Jake Futch said the victim was killed sometime in July. An autopsy at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab in Savannah revealed the victim was killed by "blunt force trauma to the head."
Broadhead confirmed the body was discovered after someone noticed an odor and the apartment complex manager called police Oct. 2. Further investigation led to the discovery of David Kenimer's body in a wooded area behind the Hwy. 310 North apartment complex.
Melissa Sue Kenimer used her father's bank cards after his death, but when money from his paycheck ran out, it is believed she faced eviction and that is when she moved the body from the apartment closet, Statesboro Police Community Information Specialist Madison Bridges said Monday.
Futch said tattoos and fingerprints led to David Kenimer's identification.
Melissa Sue Kenimer was first held on probation violation charges while the investigation progressed, then was charged Wednesday with felony murder, concealing a death, financial transaction card theft and financial transaction card fraud.
She is being held in the Bulloch County Jail, without bond.
