Statesboro police are seeking a man in connection to a reported aggravated sodomy assault that occurred just after 12:01 a.m. Thursday.

A 21-year-old woman told investigators she answered a knock on the door of her Somerset apartment on Fair Road just before midnight Wednesday, and a white male forced his way into her home and sexually assaulted her, Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said in a news release issued Thursday.

The offender is described as a white male between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall, and the victim told police that man's the offender's face was covered.

No further details were released. The case is still under investigation.

Police added in a Nixle alert issued shortly after the news release that they urge residents "to be cautious of late night knocks at the door" after this incident.

Turner urges citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity or persons.
