Statesboro police: No foul play suspected in Georgia Southern students death

Statesboro police say foul play is not suspected in the death of Brooke Edwards, a Georgia Southern University student who was found unresponsive at her off-campus apartment Friday morning.

Cpl. Justin Samples, the police department's public information officer, said no further details would be released.

Edwards, 19, of Cumming, was a sophomore biology major. Georgia Southern issued a statement Monday saying the university "family is deeply saddened by this loss and our thoughts and prayers are with the student's family and friends during this difficult time."

The Bulloch County Coroner's Office indicated that the results of toxicology and other tests won't be available for several weeks.

According to her obituary, Edwards graduated from North Forsyth High School in 2013 and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority at Georgia Southern

She was working at the Otter Conservancy in Statesboro and volunteered at horse rescues and animal shelters, the obituary states.
