Tasheina Canty White

Tasheina Canty White, a native of Statesboro, will take part in the First Friday Concert Series this week at the Emma Kelly Theater inside the Averitt Center for the Arts. Friday’s show starts at 7:30 p.m.
Accompanied by members of the Georgia Southern orchestra, White will sing some popular classical pieces from Handel, Schubert, Pergolesi and more. In addition to the classical portion, White also will offer a number of spirituals and anthems that will feature members of her Statesboro family, the Canty Singers.
Deeply rooted in Gospel music, White said she holds a passion for both traditional and contemporary gospel. White said she expanded her musical experiences through classical music during her studies at the University of Georgia. While she sings, she has been called an “uplifter,” as her audiences experience the joy and elation that come out through her music.
White said she is excited about the opportunity to return to both her passion and her hometown for Friday’s show.
Tickets are $5 and cane be reserved by calling the Averitt Center box office at 212-2787.
