Statesboro-Bulloch County Crime Suppression Team investigators arrested a man Saturday for possession of a gun, marijuana and the drug known by the street name "Molly," according to a news release.

Courtney Gaines, 24, of Lanier Drive, was
charged with marijuana possession, possession of MDPV and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Investigators were "working a concentrated patrol" around Georgia Southern University Saturday and "observed several males acting suspiciously at an apartment complex next to the Fast and Easy on Lanier Drive," Bulloch County Sheriff Lynn Anderson said in a news release issued Wednesday.

Officers approached the men, standing beside a vehicle, and "detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the area the males were standing in," he said.

Upon query, investigators discovered an undisclosed amount of marijuana and MDPV (methylenedioxypyrovalerone), also known as "Molly." They also found a .45-caliber handgun with an extended magazine laying on the floor board of the vehicle, he said.

Devin Washington, 23, of Lanier Drive, was also charged with marijuana possession. Both he and Gaines were transported to the Bulloch County Jail for processing, Anderson said.
