DNA test results led to the arrest of a man accused of molesting a child more than two years ago, Bulloch County Sheriff Lynn Anderson said.
Ronald Eugene Holton, 47, of Allison Lane, was arrested Tuesday and charged with child molestation after a grand jury indicted him following a recommendation by the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s office.
Holton is accused of touching a teenage girl inappropriately in May 2010, according to a sheriff’s office news release.
Bulloch County sheriff’s investigators were assigned to the case after the girl, who was 13 at the time and was visiting friends at an Allison Lane location, reported the incident.
After extensive interviews, investigators obtained DNA samples from the victim. While there was no sexual intercourse involved, the alleged molestation provided opportunity for DNA samples to be taken that could provide evidence of inappropriate touching, Anderson said.
The samples were submitted to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab “for analysis, a process which took several months,” the sheriff said. “After the samples were analyzed and the interviews were concluded, investigators presented the case file to the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit’s District Attorney’s office for review.”
The case was then turned over to a grand jury, “which, after hearing the evidence, issued a grand jury arrest warrant for Holton on a single count of child molestation,” he said.
Holton was taken to the Bulloch County Jail, where he remains without bond, according to jail records.
