A Statesboro man is in jail on charges he bilked two people out of thousands of dollars, and the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office says there might be other victims.During the past month, two Statesboro residents contacted sheriff’s investigators saying they were the victims of fraud at the hands of Ronnie Wilkerson, 53, of Peachtree Street, according to a news release issued Wednesday by Sheriff Lynn Anderson. Both residents told investigators that Wilkerson solicited money from them under false pretenses, cashed fraudulent checks with them and tried to convince them they could participate in an estate settlement he supposedly was about to receive. The two victims said they lost about $20,000 through these schemes, the sheriff’s office said.Wilkerson is in custody at the Bulloch County Jail, charged with two counts each of felony theft by deception, negotiating a fraudulent check and exploitation of an elderly person.Sheriff’s investigators believe there may be other people who were exploited by Wilkerson for their money, the news release says. The investigation is ongoing, and other charges are possible should additional victims come forward.Anyone with further information on the case is asked to contact sheriff’s Investigator Jared Akins at (912) 764-1789 or submit an anonymous tip to tips@bullochsheriff.com.
