The Statesboro Blues band is back at the Emma Kelly Theater Saturday for their annual concert as a part of the Averitt Center's Summer Concert Series. The local band returns with a “tighter sound,” classic covers, and for the first time for the Emma Kelly audience, they will be performing original material.
It is the Statesboro Blues' fourth concert at the Emma Kelly since the first benefit in 2005. Led by Chris Mitchell of Pladd Dot Music, the concert is Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person and $10 for youth (ages 12 and under). Proceeds go to benefit the Emma Kelly Theater and the various programs and performers that frequent the venue.
The Statesboro Blues are Chris Mitchell on vocals and guitar, Ashlee Mitchell and Patti Kelly on vocals, and Ryan Kelly on the bass. On the horns are, William Fennell, Grant Buro, Jay Lambert and Bruce Mangan. With the two newest members, Brian Hendricks and Dr. Matt Fallon of Georgia Southern, that takes the number in the band to 10.
Despite pervious performances Chris Mitchell describes the concert as a “great opportunity to re-introduce the band to Statesboro.”
He said Saturday's show would “be the first time we perform our original stuff at the Emma Kelly.” Mitchell said the new musical line up has a more modern sound.
The Statesboro Blues concert is one of the most popular every year and seats are limited.
