Neos Dance Theatre will be performing at the Averitt Center for the Arts on Saturday at 7:30 pm. and members of the Statesboro Youth Ballet have been working with Artistic Director and Co-Founder, Bobby Wesner to learn a new piece he has choreographed for them. The number will be included in Saturday night’s performance.

    “Neos is Greek for starting something new – and that’s just what we’re about,” said Wesner. “We are a diverse group of dancers sharing in a common goal of creating excellent work and energy on the stage and in the studio.”

    The group promises exciting choreography, unique works and passionate movement, as each dancer is well versed in classical ballet. 

     “I’m very pleased with the talent of the dancers at Statesboro Youth Ballet,” Wesner said. “They are a dedicated and hardworking group of kids.”

    “I’m so excited to be working with professional dancers,” said Julia Ann Maxwell, a Statesboro Youth Ballet student. “We’re learning so much from Mr. Bobby, his combinations are challenging, but he’s very nice and patient with us. It’s such a great opportunity to be able to work with and perform with a real professional company.”

    The Averitt Center was introduced to Neos Dance Theatre by Statesboro Youth Ballet director, Jurijs Safonovs, who was the company’s dance master before moving to Statesboro. Safonovs and Neos Dance Theatre have maintained a working relationship, and Safonovs will be performing with the company during Saturday’s mixed repertoire performance. The performance will offer a wide variety of styles with works choreographed by Alejandro Cerrudo, Heinz Poll, and Wesner.

    The dancers of Neos Dance Theatre have performed all over the United States and abroad. Their resumes include works by George Balanchine, Anthony Tudor, Dwight Rhoden, Paul Taylor, Kurt Josse, Michael Smuin, David Parsons, Kevin O'Day, Moses Pendleton, Gus Giordano, Pilobolous, Michael Uhtoff, Eugene Loring, Ib Anderson, and many more. Their training is extensive and eclectic including Milwaukee Ballet, the School of Cleveland Ballet, Indiana University, Latvian National Ballet, IncolBallet, School of Ballet Arizona, Chautauqua Summer Festival, and more.
