Teens will have a chance to learn more about police and their work this summer during the Statesboro Police Department's 2018 Youth Citizen Police Academy.
Modeled after the original Citizens Police Academy, the weekly sessions will cover a variety of topics pertaining to policing, including hands-on learning activities.
Participants will be able to engage in ride-alongs with officers on duty and learn more about patrolling, detective work, firearms protocol and more.
The Statesboro Police Department is taking applications for open spots through May 29.
The Youth Citizens Police Academy is open to Bulloch County youth ages 13 through 17 who would like to learn more about the Statesboro Police Department and how officers serve the community.
The program will be held on Tuesdays, from 4-6 p.m., June 5 through July 10, except for the week of July 4.
Applications can be found by clicking here or by stopping by the Statesboro police station at 25 W. Grady St.
