Screven County death under investigation
Woman dies from a stab wound Tuesday night

The Screven County Sheriff's Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are investigating the death of a woman from a stab wound that occurred Tuesday night at her home in the Whitehill community, off Georgia Highway 21 south of Sylvania.
Helen Elaine Neely, 47, died while in route to medical attention, the Sheriff's Office said in a news release. Sheriff's deputies and Screven County Emergency Medical Service personnel had responded to a call to the residence about 1:30 a.m. about a woman suffering from a single knife wound.
"We can't release much information right now," Screven County Sheriff Mike Kile said when phoned later Wednesday morning. "The GBI and deputies are out there now doing the investigation."
Neely was pronounced dead at the Sylvania hospital, Optim Medical Center-Screven, around 2 a.m., Kile said.
Screven County Sheriff's Office Investigator Brett Dickerson referred to the police work underway as a death investigation. As of Wednesday, officials were not calling Neely's death a homicide.
"No arrests have been made, nor are we searching for any suspects," Kile stated in the release posted to his department's Facebook page around 12:15 p.m. "I expect further information to be available after an autopsy tomorrow."
Kile asked that anyone with questions or concerns call his office at (912) 564-2013.
