Bulloch County Gold Star families, those who have lost family members to recent wars, will be honored with a private “End of Day” ceremony and dinner Monday, after volunteers with America’s Run for the Fallen comes through town.

The cross-country run will span several states, with runners stopping every two miles to honor fallen soldiers along the way, said Mike Cox, director of the Statesboro VFW Post, who is hosting the local event.

America’s Run for the Fallen honors fallen military with the run, which can be viewed daily on Youtube.

The runners will be coming in from Macon on Highway 80, expected in Statesboro from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday.

The private awards ceremony and dinner will be held for God Star families at 6 p.m. at the American Legion Post 90 location. At least four Gold Star families are expected, Cox said.

The mission of America’s Run for the Fallen is to “perpetually recognize the sacrifice of America’s military fallen service members and their families. The organization pays tribute to all military lives lost, not only while serving on active duty but also as a result of serving. Military deaths in all wars or conflicts and all branches of service from our nation’s inception are recognized,” according to Internet website www.runforthefallen.org.

Cox said local runners are invited to run along with the group, and spectators are urged to stop along the path and support the cause. For more information call 480-495-4668.
