A routine patrol last week by two Statesboro Police Department officers resulted in taking three illegal firearms off the street.
According to a release from Capt. Jared Akins, two SPD Patrol officers were on a foot patrol last Saturday about 11:45 p.m. in the area of Eagle Court Condos on Lanier Drive. "This area has suffered from significant levels of violence and theft in the past, and foot patrols are an effective way for officers to prevent criminal activity," Akins said.
The officers observed a vehicle with its doors open and approached it, noting the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle, Akins said.
"A probable cause search of the vehicle yielded marijuana and three firearms, one of which was equipped with a so-called "Glock switch" designed to convert the handgun from semi-automatic to fully automatic in violation of Federal and State law," Akins said in the release.
At the scene, officers arrested:
Cincere Quarterman, 21, of Ludowici, who is charged with possession of an unlawful weapon and possession of marijuana, less than one ounce
Sayveon Hall, 23, of Pooler, who is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or first offender and possession of marijuana, less than one ounce.
Quarterman and Hall were transported to the Bulloch County Jail for processing. Also, both cases were forwarded to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) for review and potential prosecution.
