A pair of incumbent city councilmen and a mayoral hopeful became the first to signal their intent to seek office this year, when the week-long qualifying period for November elections began Monday.
A pair of incumbent city councilmen and a mayoral hopeful became the first to signal their intent to seek office this year, when the week-long qualifying period for November elections began Monday. District 4 City Councilman John Riggs, District 1 Councilman Phil Boyum, and Jan Moore, a Bulloch County public schools psychologist and Statesboro Herald business editor, submitted paperwork and qualifying fees at City Hall and will be placed on ballots for a November city election. Riggs, 43, will seek office for a second consecutive term, vying to represent his district on City Council.A longtime resident of District 4, Riggs was elected to office in 2009, capturing more than 76 percent of votes cast.
