A woman who admitted making false refunds at her job at Office Max ended up behind bars after managers discovered her ruse, according to Statesboro Police reports.
The employee racked up over $1,000 in refunds, reports said.
Vernee Andrews, 25, Packinghouse Road, had been ringing up fictitious refunds, and either taking the cash or placing the amounts on gift cards for her own use, reports stated.
The incidents recorded were between April 6 and May 12. Andrew was arrested on felony theft by taking charges Wednesday, May 13, police said.
Officers responded to Office Max Thursday to meet with the store managers, who said Andrews took a total of $1,056.65 in false returns. When questioned, Andrews admitted to having committed the crimes, and police found two gift cards on her person, with values totaling $180.74, reports said.
Andrews was arrested on felony theft by taking charges and taken into custody, transported to the Bulloch County Jail, and later posted bond, according to jail records.
