Crime lab tests determined human remains found Wednesday underneath a North College Street home were those of Orlando Quentin Hamilton, a black man who was 20 years old when reported missing in October 2007.
"Hamilton ... was reported missing to the Statesboro Police Department on Oct. 5, 2007 by family members," said Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner. "According to family at the time of the report, Hamilton was last seen on September 27, 2007 at approximately 7 p.m. after being dropped off near the Boy's and Girl's Club on Denmark Street."
Witnesses told police Hamilton, who wore a dreadlock hairstyle, was "seen getting on a bicycle and leaving that area shortly after being dropped off," he said.
The remains were found after a man called the Bulloch County Sheriff's Department to report finding possible human remains. The caller told Bulloch County Sheriff's Inv. Jared Akins he was checking the house out for renovations when he discovered the remains, but Turner said Dr. Whit Lord, who owns the house, had not spoken with anyone regarding the rental home.
Turner said the remains are being sent to a forensic anthropologist in Atlanta to determine cause of death. Statesboro Police Det. Keith Holloway is conducting a "death investigation with suspicious circumstances," he said.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Holloway at (912) 764-1542.
