Police are seeking a man who robbed a restaurant and an employee early Monday morning, then escaped in the victim's car.

Statesboro police responded around 3 a.m. Monday to Subway on Lanier Drive after a call reporting an armed robbery, Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said.

A black man, 5 feet 6 inches tall, with facial hair and an earring in his left ear, entered the restaurant "with a handgun and took cash from the register, a Subway employee's wallet, mobile phone, and vehicle keys," Turner said. "The offender then took the victim's vehicle and left the scene."

No injuries were reported.

The man wore a New York Yankees hat, the victim said.
"The security footage shows the offender wearing a gray T-shirt, black shorts, and had a black backpack covered with small white emblems," Turner said.

The vehicle, a silver 2012 Honda Accent, was located by police within an hour of the robbery.

Anyone with information concerning this case is asked to contact Statesboro police Detective Keith Holloway at (912) 764-9911.
