Two men dressed in black and wearing red bandannas, robbed GeoVista Credit Union Tuesday afternoon, and Statesboro Police spent the rest of the day seeking the suspects.
The suspects walked into the South Main Street bank around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, flashed a firearm and stole an undisclosed amount of cash, said Statesboro Police Capt. Scott P. Brunson.
Brunson was off duty Tuesday, and did not have full details of the investigation. Statesboro Police Det. Sgt. James Winskey, who was in charge of the department's criminal investigation division during Brunson's absence, was not immediately available for comment Tuesday. Brunson said Winskey was on the street with other SPD detectives, conducting the investigation and seeking the suspects.
No one was injured during the robbery, and the case is being jointly investigated by Statesboro Police and Statesboro agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, he said.
Police were heard over a scanner Tuesday afternoon as they saturated the Mikell Street, West Jones Avenue and surrounding areas, seeking the suspects in nearby woodlands. The investigation continued into the night as officers gathered evidence and sought the suspects.
Anyone with information regarding the robbery is asked to contact the Statesboro Police department at 764-9911.
