A man broke into a home and tried to sexually assault a 72-year-old woman, police said.

At 7:45 a.m. Sunday, the Statesboro Police Department responded to a home on North Zetterower Avenue in reference to an attempted sexual assault and burglary, Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said in a news release issued Tuesday.

The woman found a man she did not know inside. When police arrived, they found evidence of forced entry into the home, but nothing was missing.

The suspect was described as a black male, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall with a slender build. He was wearing blue jeans and, possibly, a blue do-rag. The woman had no apparent physical injuries as a result of the incident.

Police responded to the same location Friday in reference to a complaint about graffiti on the side of the building. The Statesboro Police Department Investigations Bureau is not looking at the cases as related incidents at this time.

This case is currently under investigation.  A reward is being offered in this case.
