A man broke into a Fair Road Apartments home and tried to rape a woman late Saturday night, police said. The man, identified as Aaron Vizonrs Salazar-Maido, is now behind bars on multiple charges.
Salazar-Maido, 23, Fair Road, is being held without bond, charged with criminal attempt to commit rape, aggravated assault, burglary, battery, sexual battery and public intoxication, said Statesboro Police Capt. Scott Brunson.
Officers responded to the Fair Road Apartments location just after 11 p.m. Saturday and met with the victim, he said. Officers got a description and a “ possible location” of the offender, he said.
Statesboro Police Det. Terry Briley was called to the scene and launched an investigation, he said.
Soon officers located Salazar-Maido in the area, and took him into custody. The victim was treated at the scene by Bulloch County EMS for apparent injuries sustained in the ordeal, and was taken to East Georgia Regional Medical Center for further treatment, Brunson said.
He would not comment  Monday on the extent of the victim’s injuries, citing an ongoing investigation.
Salazar-Maido was taken to the Bulloch County Jail and booked on the multiple charges. He remains in jail without bond, according to jail records.
Briley deferred comment about the attempted rape to Brunson. Statesboro Police Det. Sgt. James Winskie would not comment on whether the victim knew the suspect, citing his reason as the investigation is still ongoing.
