A man was shot early Friday morning in what police said was a drug-related home invasion at a Knight Drive apartment complex near Georgia Southern University.

The victim remains unidentified as the investigation is ongoing, said Statesboro Police Chief Mike Broadhead.

Around 1:30 a.m. Friday, three masked suspects burst uninvited into an Eagle Walk apartment, bearing firearms, and shot one of seven victims inside, he said.

The male victim suffered a gunshot wound to the head, but is expected to live. However, an official condition report was unavailable Friday, Broadhead said.

No one else in the apartment was harmed. Broadhead said the incident is believed to be drug-related, as “there were drugs being sold out of that apartment.”

Detectives are pursuing several leads as the investigation continues, he said. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Statesboro Police Department at (912) 764-9911.
