Ronald "Ron" Nelson King, age 68, of Lawrenceville, Ga., passed away Friday, April 6, 2018, from injuries sustained in a car accident.

Ron is survived by his wife of 40 years, Patty Floyd King; sons, Devin and Brandon King; daughter, Sarah (Mike) Snow; granddaughters, Peyton and Piper Snow; and grandson, Tristan Snow, all of Lawrenceville. Ron is also survived by his mother, Bettye Carlton Camby of Sylvania, Ga.; brother, Mac (Cyndee) King; and nephews, Justin King and Michael (Amanda) King.

He was preceded in death by his stepdad, Bob Camby; his aunt, Jane Quattlebaum; and his grandparents, Malcolm and Annie Carlton.

Through the years, Ron enjoyed cooking, working in the yard, and playing guitar, tennis and pool. He selflessly cared for his family and friends. He was a quiet, gentle and patient man who was considered the rock of his family and fiercely protective of those he loved.

Ron was born on March 1, 1950, in Millen, Ga. He grew up in Sylvania, Ga.

Ron graduated from Screven County High School in 1968 as class valedictorian. After high school, he attended Williams College in Massachusetts on scholarship for two years. Ron enlisted in the US Air Force from 1970–74 and learned computer skills. Afterwards, he resumed his college studies at Georgia Southern College (now GSU), where he graduated in 1977 with a B.S. in business and was a member of the Sigma Pi Fraternity. He would receive an M.B.A. from Georgia State in 1983.

On August 20, 1977, Ron married Patty Floyd and moved to Atlanta. For the last 32 years, they lived in the River Oaks neighborhood of Gwinnett County.

Ron worked for three power utility companies: Georgia Power, Southern Company and, for the last 22 years, MEAG Power. At the time of his passing, he was MEAG's director of internal services. He planned to retire in January 2019.

Ron was a member of Snellville First Baptist Church and the Berachah Sunday school class.

The celebration of life service for Ronnie King will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 13, 2018, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
