STATESBORO, Ga. — Mr. Johnnie Bennett, age 84, passed into rest Sunday, April 8, 2018, at his residence, under the care of Regency Southern Care Hospice.
The Bulloch County native was the son of the late Willie and Mary Alice Simmons Bennett. At an early age, he relocated to the state of New Jersey, where he worked as an engineer for the Stevens Institute of Technology. After returning to Statesboro, Georgia, he attended Hodges Grove Baptist Church.
He is survived by his children, Bernice (Abram) Brown, Statesboro, Ga.; Johnnie Mae Knights, Strasburg, Pa.; Ruby Jewel Bennett, Scranton, Pa.; John Willie Bennett III, Newark, N.J.; Andre Bennett, Bartonville, Pa.; Eugene Bennett (Debbie Vivian), Efred, Pa.; Anthony C. Bennett, Bartonville, Pa.; and Ricky C. Bennett, Dunmore, Pa.; stepchildren, Wanda Simmons Armstrong, Newark, N.J.; Andre Simmons, Strasburg, N.J.; and Vaughn Simmons, Newark, N.J.; a sister, Josephine Bennett, Statesboro, Ga.; brothers, Same Albert Bennett, Mt. Pocono, Pa.; Isiah Bennett, Statesboro, Ga.; Benjamin Bennett, Maryland; and Jerry Bennett, Newark, N.J.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral service for Mr. Bennett will be held 11 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2018, in the Ben Samuel Hill Memorial Chapel of Hill's Mortuary, Inc.
Burial will be held in the Evergreen Cemetery, Hillside, New Jersey, at a later date.
Final rites have been entrusted to Hill's Mortuary, Inc.
