At approximately 1:45 p.m. Thursday, a Bulloch County Schools bus that was transporting nine Transitions Learning Center students and their counselor was involved in a single-vehicle accident in the parking lot of the Statesboro campus of East Georgia College.
According to Chief Operating Officer Paul Webb, the bus struck a pole in the college’s parking lot.
EMS first responders arrived immediately on the scene and examined all passengers involved in the accident. No students or adults were transported to the hospital. An alternate bus was dispatched to the scene to transport the students back to the Learning Center campus.
The students were 11th- and 12th-grade students who had traveled to Ogeechee Technical College to take the Accuplacer test, an entrance exam for students wishing to enroll in Ogeechee Tech or any of the technical colleges in Georgia. After completing the exam, the students were to take a tour of East Georgia College.
Transitions Learning Center is the school system's alternative education program for students in grades 6-12. It provides non-traditional, classroom and online course recovery options to help ensure students remain on track to successfully graduate from high school. The Center is part of the William James Educational Complex at 150 Williams Road, adjacent to the district's Central Office.
