Help A Child Smile will visit the Bulloch County Division of Family and Children Services offices today and Thursday starting at 9 a.m. The mobile dental care unit will be parked at the offices on Altman Street, behind the Bulloch County Health Department.
The unit offers care to children that have limited or no access to oral health care. Of new patients, more than 50 percent have never been treated by a dentist. By featuring mobile units, Help A Child Smile is able to operate in areas where a traditional dental practice might not be affordable.Help A Child Smile accepts most insurance, including Medicaid for those ages four to 20 years and PeachCare for those ages 4 to 18 years.
Founded in Conyers, Ga., by Dr. Mark Shurett and his associates in 1993 after 14 years of family practice, Help A Child Smile, unlike many mobile dental programs, provides comprehensive dental care including x-rays, fluoride treatment, sealants, comprehensive exams and cavity treatment using composite materials.
The mobile unit coming to Bulloch is identical to that found in Dr. Shurett’s family practice in Conyers. Each full service dental office is staffed with one licensed dentist, one certified hygienist, two assistants, one mobile manager and one X-ray technician.
For an appointment, contact the local Division of Family and Children Services at (912) 871-1333 or call Help A Child Smile at 1-800-770-0388.
