March for Our Lives 1 p.m. today at GSU
One of many planned around world

Georgia Southern University students have organized a March for Our Lives event for 1 p.m. Saturday on the Statesboro campus.

Like events of the same name in Washington, D.C., and around the world, the Statesboro march is a protest against mass shootings and other gun violence. It is part of a broader student-led movement, including walkouts by students in high school and younger, impelled by the Feb. 14 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

Starting at the Russell Union Rotunda, Saturday’s participants will march to Forest Drive and back around to the Rotunda, where some speakers will be heard immediately after the march.

The Young Democrats of Georgia Southern, the NAACP of GSU and the Gay-Straight Alliance of GSU are sponsoring the march, reports Young Democrats President Eduardo Delgado.

As of Friday evening, the local march was one of 842 March for Our Lives events planned worldwide, as identified on An interactive map there shows the locations of the marches, with most occurring today, Saturday, March 24, which is also the date of the central march in Washington.
