A man remained in critical condition Monday after a Friday night crash in which his wife was killed.
    Bobby Steven Mallard, 67, of Metts Road, was airlifted to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah after being injured in an automobile accident on Georgia Highway 67 around 9:30 p.m., according to Georgia State Patrol reports.
    His wife, Geneva Finch Mallard, was killed upon impact after a 2011 Ford pickup truck, driven by Sean Jackson Brannen, 19, of Brannen Farm Road, slammed into the passenger side of Mallard’s 2003 Pontiac Montana.
    Reports by GSP Trooper 1st Class Trey Miller stated Brannen was driving east on Emit Church Road, approaching Highway 67, and failed to stop at the stop sign. Upon impact, both vehicles traveled onto the west shoulder of Highway 67. Mallard’s vehicle overturned onto the driver’s side; Brannen’s truck overturned, struck a pole and came to rest on its roof.
    Brannen and his five passengers suffered head injuries. Brannen, like Mallard, was first taken to East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro, then transported to Memorial, according to reports.
    Passengers in the truck were Brooks Austin Edwards, 19, of Brooklet-Denmark Road in Brooklet; Matt Lawson Conner, 22, of Stilson-Leefield Road in Brooklet; Glynn Patten Helmly, 22, of Union Springs Road in Clyo; Joseph Edward Wilson, 21, of Birch Court in Brooklet; and Zachary Clay Helmly, 19, of Union Springs Road in Clyo.
    GSP Capt. Kirk McGlamery said reports that Brannen had turned off his headlights before crossing Highway 67 are unproven and “are rumors, and the investigation into the accident continue.”
    The accident was turned over to the GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team, and team investigators were inspecting the vehicles Monday. Until evidence is collected, witnesses interviewed and the investigation is completed, investigators will not release information regarding the crash, he said.
    Charges against Brannen are pending completion of the investigation, McGlamery said.
