A man was shot Wednesday night near Eagle Gate Apartments, and Statesboro police seek information on the suspect.
Around 9:40 p.m., officers responded to reports of shots fired near the apartments on South Mulberry Street.
Officers at the scene “were advised that a black male had been shot and was being transported by a friend to East Georgia Regional Medical Center,” Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said.
Officers responded to the hospital and found and “that a black male that had suffered a gunshot wound was being treated in the emergency room,” Turner said.
Detective Patrick Harrelson met with the victim at the emergency room and began an investigation while other officers and detectives questioned witnesses at the apartments. Officers were on the scene until around midnight.
Turner said no further information was immediately available, pending further investigation.
Shots also were reported on South Walnut Street around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. Turner did not say whether the incidents were related. No injuries or shell casings were found at the South Walnut Street location.
