A Midway man was jailed Monday after reportedly firing a shot into a crowd at a party in Bulloch County Sunday.
Bulloch County Sheriff’s Capt. Todd Hutchens said further charges are pending and more arrests may be made as the investigation into the incident unfolds.
Douglas Lester Weaver, 20, Blue Bird Road, Midway, is charged with aggravated assault. He reportedly fired a gun into a “large crowd” of more than 50 people between ages “15 and 25” at a party on Bennett Grooms Road early Sunday morning.
Deputies received a call around 2:15 a.m. Sunday to a residence in the 300 block of Bennett-Grooms Road after receiving reports of “a gunshot wound at a gathering.” While en route to the call, Bulloch County 911 operators informed deputies another victim “had possibly been stabbed,” reports stated.
The victim who was shot suffered a wound to the lower leg and was taken by Bulloch County EMS to East Georgia Regional Medical Center. The second victim was not stabbed, but had suffered a cut to the arm and was treated by EMS at the scene, Hutchens said.
Investigators are still seeking to identify the offender involved in the cutting incident.
The altercation began when “a group from Bryan County came and someone started a fight” at the party, he said. The cause of the fight is yet unknown.
Further investigation continues, and more charges and arrests may be forthcoming, he said.
Weaver was taken to the Bulloch County Jail, where he remains without bond, according to jail records.
