A Christmas Day robbery left a man, just out of the hospital, without a sizable amount of cash, according to Statesboro Police reports.
The  49-year-old Black Creek Church Road man’s troubles began Christmas Eve, reports stated. The man was staying in a room at Eagle Inn, and police were called to his room around 2:45 p.m.  Wednesday for a “sick person” call.
The man was walking around the motel parking lot yelling and saying he needed help, Statesboro Police Advanced Patrol Officer Richard Beckum reported. Police spoke with him and learned he has swallowed an “unknown amount of illegal drugs.”
The man’s identity is not being published, as he was not arrested on criminal charges.
The man was taken to the hospital for treatment, but officers were concerned about a large amount of cash that was inside the man’s room. They secured the room, noting in reports that everything was left as it had been found, and took the key to the hospital, leaving it with the victim and hospital security.
Apparently the victim was released from the hospital, because around 2:10 a.m Christmas Day he called police to report being robbed.
He told police a man he knew, as well as another man, wearing a mask, forced their way into his room, took $5,000 cash and his car keys. Then, the suspects “left running,” reports said.
Police reports listed two suspects by name, and the case was turned over to Det. Tommy Brown.
Brown was unavailable for comment Friday.
The victim was not injured in the robbery, according to reports.
