To the citizens of Statesboro/Bulloch County:
First let me say it is not everyday that you meet people like Mr. Ellis Wood and all the people that came from your community and supported our community in such a time of need.
It is overwhelming that all these people came from all walks of life for one reason and one reason only and that is to help our citizens through out our city and county.
The devastation from the tornado that went through South Georgia was so great hundreds of homes, businesses and even our hospital where over 700 employees and Doctors worked were destroyed or damaged and are now are just trying to survive.
We lost two people and and had several injuries. If each one of you could have heard thousands of people screaming and crying in the darkness and in fear for their life then you would know how grateful I am for the folks that came and helped.
As the Sheriff of Sumter County I can never say thank you enough.
May God bless each and every one of you.
Pete Smith
Sheriff of Sumter County
