Statesboro Police Commander J. R. Holloway will retire effective Oct. 1, and citizens are invited to a celebration Thursday, Sept. 15, of his 31 years of service, said Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner.
“Commander Holloway has had a wonderful and fulfilling career as he has progressed through all the ranks and positions at the Police Department to retire on top as the Statesboro Police Department Commander,” he said. Commander Holloway has received numerous awards and recognitions throughout his distinguished career. He received prestigious training through the FBI National Academy program, the Georgia Chiefs of Police Command College professional management program, and GACP Chief’s training, among others.
Holloway made Statesboro history as the first African American Police Commander for the Department.
The drop-in reception will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Jones-Love Cultural Center building in the Luetta Moore Park at 121 Martin Luther King Drive.
