The Georgia Southern University Symphonic Wind Ensemble, under the musical direction of Conductor Robert Dunham, will perform at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Luck Flanders Gambrell auditorium at East Georgia State College.

Sponsored by the EGSC Vision Series, a privately funded initiative that seeks to bring programs of cultural and intellectual enrichment to the college and its constituency, the hourlong concert is free and open to the community.

The performance marks the second visit to campus by the ensemble. Musical selections for the performance include "Sparkle" by William G. Harbinson, "Psalm for Band" by Vincent Persichetti, "Toledo for Concert Band" by Bruce Carlson, "Mock Morris" by Percy Aldridge Grainger and "Armenian Dances, Part I" by Alfred Reed.

The 45-piece ensemble is the most select of the three concert bands in the university's bands program, with a membership limited to the most accomplished woodwind, brass and percussion performers on the Georgia Southern campus. Members of the Symphonic Wind Ensemble perform repertoire of the highest caliber, representing all musical style periods from the Renaissance through modern day, featuring works created by the finest composers for the historical and modern wind band. The ensemble performs two to three concerts each semester on campus or regionally and regularly tours Georgia and the Southeast.

The Symphonic Wind Ensemble, supported in part by the GSU Office of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, is an integral facet of the Department of Music's summer study abroad program, which traditionally includes an international concert tour every third summer. Recently, the ensemble appeared in London; Prague; Vienna; Budapest, Hungary; Florence, Italy; and Munich.
