Jonathan Sandys, Winston Churchill’s great-grandson, will bring a bit of British history to Bulloch County Sunday when he speaks to the congregation and visitors at Statesboro’s First United Methodist Church.
Sandys (pronounced sands) will deliver a speech about “Churchill and God — Making the Connection,” he said.  He will expound on the subject of Churchill’s prophecies, of God’s protection of his great-grandfather throughout his life, and the many perilous times he faced before World War II.
He will also speak during a Sunday School class, about “times Churchill was in war,” he said.
The public is invited to hear Sandy’s delivery during the church’s 10:55 a.m. service. Sandys will speak to all of the church’s Sunday School classes at 9:45 a.m.
Sandys said he would be speaking about how Churchill “prophetized in India that he would one day be called to defend London,” he said.
In all his speeches, Sandys said he gives an “overview of my great-grandfather’s life.”
Church pastor Charles Houston said he was interested in having Sandys speak to the church after learning about his lectures from church member Linda Arnold.
“I decided, especially with the number of our people (the church holds four services on Sundays) we would have some interested in the connection with Churchill,” he said.
He will be speaking at Georgia Southern University’s Russell Union Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m., delivering a lecture entitled  “Churchill: Writing History,” about Winston Churchill’s role in World War II. The lecture will be held in Room 2047 and is free and open to the public.
Sandys will also be speaking to the First United Methodists Women’s group Monday, he said. That lecture will be about Churchill’s love and relationship with Sandy’s grandmother, Clementine, he said.
The lectures are sponsored in part by the Churchill Britain Foundation and supported by Arnold , who will be hosting Sandys, a family friend, in her home during his stay.
