Georgia Southern University's College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences will host Scott McCloud, cartoonist and comic book theorist, on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 5:30 p.m. in room 1115 of the College of Education.
"I wanted to bring Scott McCloud to the university because he is a renowned lecturer and because of his work as a comic artist, scholar of comics and graphic representation," said Les Loncharich, Ph.D., event coordinator and professor in the Department of Writing and Linguistics. "He brings a demonstrated mastery of composing with words and images in combination. Learning and teaching at the university level increasingly asks students to do the same, to work with many kinds of information and tools towards making and sharing knowledge."
McCloud is the award-winning author of "Understanding Comics" and its sequels, available in more than 18 languages. His fiction works include "Zot!" and "Superman Adventures," and the upcoming graphic novel is "The Sculptor." He's a frequent lecturer and teacher on comics, digital media and visual communication. His online comics and writings can be found at scottmccloud.com.
The event is free and open to the public.
