Firefighters from the Statesboro and Bulloch County Fire Departments responded to a fire at 11 West Grady Street at approximately 10 a.m. Saturday.
       When firefighters arrived at the location, the rear of the residence was engulfed in heavy smoke.
       None of the three residents of the home, Alex Z. Jordan, 21, Tony Donato, 26, and Phil Lanier, 29, were present when the fire started. Donato was running errands and firefighters were already at the residence battling the blaze when he returned.
      Jordan's parents, Alex and Sherry Jordan, own the home and were present at the scene. The Jordans, who now live in Bulloch County, restored the home, built in 1924, in the mid 1980s and had planned to pass on the home to their son.
      "A lot of hard work went into that house," said Sherry Jordan, "but as long as the boys are okay, that's all that matters - and that no fire fighters were hurt."
       According to Capt. Derrel Melton of the Statesboro Fire Department, the fire took at least thirty minutes to control, and firefighters continued to put out hot spots for several hours afterward. "When you see that type of smoke, you know you've got a bad fire with a lot of heat," Melton said.

       Jeff McVey, Assistant Chief for the Bulloch County Fire Department reported that fourteen firefighters from Clito assisted the Statesboro Fire Department.
