Two unidentified Statesboro firefighters prepare to enter a building where a fire Wednesday evening at Trace Villas gutted three apartments. No one was injured, said Statesboro Fire Chief Dennis Merrifield. One tenant, LaToya Bryant, said she had just checked to make sure some food she was cooking had been turned off before she walked next door to a friend's home. Her 6-year-old son returned to the apartment to get something to drink and discovered the fire, she said. Firefighters had not yet determined the cause of the blaze, Merrifield said Wednesday evening, while still at the scene. Additional details will be published in Friday's Statesboro Herald.
