Dean, Gillespie relieved of duties from Georgia Southern staff
Nationwide search for new offensive coordinator underway

David Dean and Rance Gillespie have been relieved of their duties as Georgia Southern’s co-offensive coordinators, head football coach Tyson Summers announced Sunday. A nationwide search for a new offensive coordinator is underway.

“Decisions like these are never easy,” Summers said. “I have the utmost respect for both David and Rance as people and football coaches, but we did not have the production nor the scoring numbers we had hoped for this season.

“We need to get back to our roots of having one of the most explosive rushing attacks in the country. That begins with me and the hiring of a coordinator who will fit that culture.”

Dean, who came to Georgia Southern from Valdosta State, served as the play caller in the latter half of the 2016 and was the wide receivers coach for the Eagles this season. Gillespie started the season calling the plays and spent the entire season as the quarterbacks coach, as well.
