What exactly is the Cook-Out Restaurant? We've seen the employment ads running in the Herald for the past several weeks, and now construction is underway on its Fair Road location (next to Popeyes).
I have talked with their corporate office in North Carolina, and this is what I found out.
The restaurant itself should take another six to eight weeks to complete if everything goes as scheduled. As an aside, I stopped and spoke with the builder, and he said it has been a little more difficult than one might imagine, because the old building contained so many layers and had been retrofitted so many times.
I looked at the drawings, and I don't know if I can actually articulate how different the finished product is going to look, but it appears quite nice.
A spokesperson for the company, Krystal Tenkate, said this is going to be their first location in Georgia. They currently have locations in North Carolina, Tennessee, South Carolina and Virginia.
She also said the food tastes like it was cooked outside on a grill and not inside of the restaurant.
"We have a tremendous menu which includes char-grilled hamburgers, char-grilled hot dogs, and char-grilled chicken breasts, in addition to French fries, onion rings, hush puppies," she said. "We have 50 milk shake flavors, and the prices are very, very reasonable."
She also said that the company is actively seeking employees for the location, including management staff.
"We have a 90-day training program for management staff, so it is very important that we get those people in place," she said. You can email your resume to or call Krystal at 336-431-1094."
I am sincerely hopeful that the Cook-Out restaurant is successful. There have been a number of concepts in that location since Burger King moved next door, and none have been able to make a go of it. With more than 60 locations, they seem to have developed a niche that is working for them.

So, until next Tuesday, I bid you au revoir.
