A child struck by a car at Plantation Mobile Home Park Monday suffered only minor injuries. The incident was accidental, according to Georgia State Patrol Senior Trooper Tommy Strickland.

Around 2:50 p.m. Monday, an 8-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle as a woman backed out of her driveway. The woman watched as a group of neighborhood children passed her driveway after getting off the school bus, but she could not see the victim as he kneeled down to look for “tadpoles in a ditch,” Strickland said.

The driver was not aware she had struck the child until someone yelled to her, Strickland said.

Bulloch County EMS responded after reports from Bulloch County 911 operators that the child, who reportedly was having difficulty breathing, had possibly been caught and dragged by the car’s bumper, but Strickland said there was no evidence of that having taken place. The child’s “muddy handprints” were on the bumper and he might have grabbed the bumper during the ordeal, Strickland said.

The boy only suffered back pain, but he was transported to East Georgia Regional Medical Center for evaluation. The woman driving the vehicle was not charged, Strickland said.
