Police arrested a Statesboro STEAM Academy student Tuesday after the teen reportedly threatened others with violence.

Levi Alaster Dye, 18, was charged with terroristic threats and acts and was taken to the Bulloch County Jail Tuesday, according to Statesboro police reports.

Dye, of Northwest Passage in Portal, allegedly made references to shooting at the school and specified two juvenile victims he would shoot, said Madison Warren, Statesboro police community information specialist.

Dye's arrest follows about 10 similar arrests of students in Bulloch and surrounding counties since the Feb. 14 school shooting in Parkland, Florida, that left 17 dead. The youngest public school student arrested in Bulloch County was 10.

A 21-year-old Georgia Southern University student was also charged with terroristic threats in February after posting suspicious comments online.

Statesboro STEAM Academy is a charter school, which receives state funding but not local funding and is not under auspices of the Bulloch County Board of Education.

Statesboro STEAM director Corliss Reese said Tuesday such acts and statements will not be tolerated.

"As any responsible educator does, we take any and all threats seriously," he said. "There was a reported incident (Tuesday) that warranted investigation and after the investigation, the appropriate parties were notified and disciplinary actions taken."

He did not comment on whether the school will also discipline Dye.

"This is not typical of our school environment," Reese said. "We will continue to work to educate our students on the responsibility they have as citizens in this learning community to take care of one another and respect each other. The safety of our learning environment is an important priority for us."

Dye was taken to the Bulloch County Jail to await bond and other further court hearings, according to jail records.
