No more worrying if you remembered everything the doctor said.
No more wondering if you are taking the right medicine at the right time.
East Georgia Regional Medical Center is offering a free, secure online tool that provides patients 24/7 access to their inpatient health records.
Known as "My Health Home", the Web-based tool allows patients to gain access to key elements of their inpatient medical records.
"The purpose is so that you have access to information when you get home from the hospital because you are getting a lot of information when you are in the hospital. When you finally get to go home, all you are thinking about is getting to go home and not focused on what they are trying to tell you," said Bob Bigley, East Georgia Regional's chief executive officer. "When you get home, you forget what you were instructed to do. This gives you the ability to log on to the patient portal to find your instructions."
Bigley said that the Internet portal for hospitals is a part of the Meaningful Use Stage 2 initiative that the government has initiated. Meaningful Use is using certified electronic health record technology to improve patient care quality and coordination.
"This accomplishment reflects our commitment to advance the health and care of the community we serve," said East Georgia Regional's director of information technology, Conan Stuart. "We are building a system of care that rivals the best health care organizations in the nation."
Patients simply sign up with an email address at their admission, discharge or home. The information in the portal account is private and secure.
"The portal is easy to use," said Jill Cairney, hospital's marketing director. "Patients simply sign up and create log-in credentials to have access anytime and anywhere they can access the Internet."
From any device with Internet access, patients are able to log into their personal portal account.
