A 46-year-old man has been arrested and charged with raping a woman in the woods, the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday.
The young adult female reported to the sheriff's office on June 9 that she had been sexually assaulted by an adult male she knows, according to a news release. The woman was treated for her injuries, and a sexual assault examination was conducted. The case was then assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division.
The investigation indicated that the woman and the suspect -- identified as James Venson Bazemore, of Cedarwood Acres Mobile Home Park - had visited several counties throughout the area together on June 9. The sexual assault took place that day in a wooded area on Mud Road near Arcola Road, the sheriff's office said.
Venson was arrested Tuesday and taken to the Bulloch County Jail on charges of rape, sodomy, sexual battery and providing false statements to investigators. He is being held without bond pending further judicial action.
