The Bulloch County school system is seeking entries for the Regional Technology Fair, which will be held in January.
All students in third through 12th grades from throughout Coastal Empire region — whether they attend public or private schools or are homeschooled — are eligible to participate.
Bulloch County’s fair is one of 12 regional fairs across Georgia, but one of the few in south Georgia.
All first-place winners from this fair will advance to the state-level competition, scheduled for March 9 in Macon, where they will join more than 2,000 student winners from the state’s region-level fairs.
At last year’s Bulloch County Regional Technology Fair, more than 200 students, some working as teams, entered 250 projects in 12 categories. More than 132 educators and community volunteers from Georgia Southern University, Ogeechee Technical College and area businesses and industries helped facilitate the event and serve as judges.
Area students are very competitive with their state counterparts. The 34 first-place winners from the 2012 regional fair returned from the state competition with 15 top-three placements. In 2011, the fair’s 25 winners returned with 13 top-three placements.
Students enrolled at a Bulloch County public school are asked to contact their school’s technology fair coordinator as soon as possible to register their interest in their school’s preliminary event. Other area public schools that wish to participate — and anticipate a large number of participants — are encouraged to contact the Bulloch County region director, Teresa Phillips at; (912) 212-8664 to register. Smaller private schools and homeschool students may register directly for the regional fair online.
The fair will be held at Julia P. Bryant Elementary School, 421 W. Main St., from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Jan. 26. The deadline to register is Friday, Nov. 2, and an option to register online is available at the website listed above. There are no registration fees. All students participate for free.
