An off-duty Bryan County sheriff's deputy was killed Saturday morning in a single-vehicle wreck on Eldora Road.

Daniel Eugene Brackin, 45, of Sunshine Road in Ellabell, was driving a 2001 Nissan Frontier northbound at 11:37 a.m. Saturday on Eldora Road near Eldora Cemetery Circle when he apparently lost control for reasons yet unknown, according to Georgia State Patrol Post 45 reports.

Brackin crossed the southbound lane onto the west shoulder, traveling 96 feet before he hit an embankment and started rotating. The truck overturned and continued rotating; Brackin, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected, and the truck overturned on top of him.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, reports stated.
