A hiring event for Briggs & Stratton will be held on Tuesday from 3-7 p.m. on Ogeechee Technical College’s main campus as the Georgia Department of Labor helps Briggs fill more than 20 job openings.

Briggs & Stratton is hiring maintenance technicians, manufacturing technicians and people to work in assembly of Vanguard engines, the Department of Labor announced. Job seekers interested in attending the event can visit www.employgeorgia.com to create an account so that they can prepare and submit a résumé.

“Having an Employ Georgia account expedites the interview process,” states the announcement emailed by David Bennett at the Department of Labor.

“Applicants are encouraged to bring their résumés, driver’s licenses and dress business casual to improve their chances to be hired,” the announcement also states.

Jobs on first, second and third shifts are listed in the description of requirements. All positions require a high school diploma or GED.

Minimum technical experience of one and half or three years in manufacturing is listed as a requirement for various positions, but a technical degree in a related or similar field can be considered in lieu of experience, the listing states.

The college is located at 1 Joseph E. Kennedy Blvd., off U.S. Highway 301 south of Statesboro.

Briggs & Stratton, headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, announced in October that it is bringing production of two-cylinder Vanguard V-Twin engines home to its plants at Statesboro and at Auburn, Alabama. Previously, these engines were assembled in Japan in a joint venture with Daihatsu.

At the Statesboro plant, more than 100 new employees were expected to be hired over time, with Georgia’s Quick Start program helping to train them.
