Don’t miss the talented performers of the Averitt Stars bring life and fun to Statesboro this weekend with the show “Southern Hospitality,” a big slice of Southern hilarity.

The four Futrelle sisters have gotten themselves into a heap of trouble, again. This time their problem is as big as the state of Texas. Their home Fayro, Texas, just might disappear off the map and it is up to Frankie, Twink, Honey Raye and Rhonda Lynn to save their Southern home from extinction. As people are packing up and leaving Fayro, these sisters have come up with an idea. A salsa manufacturing factory is looking for a place to relocate, and a representative is headed to Fayro now.

Will this town come crashing down while trying to make a good impression? With a Civil War reenactment, a petting zoo, a beauty pageant, a Futrelle sister desperate to marry the deputy sheriff, financial problems, 5-year-old terror twins, and “the meanest woman in 12 counties” on her way to visit, you can bet that this is this is going to be a challenge.

This performance will keep you on your toes with constant curveballs and an endless flow of “big belly laughs.” Directors Deborah Braun and Tony Phillips say the audience will have a ball watching this “simply Southern” show.

“Southern Hospitality” is sponsored by Southern Manor Retirement Inn and will be at the Emma Kelly Theater today and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The first performance was Thursday. Tickets are $13 for adults and $10 for youths 12 and younger.

During the Statesboro Mainstreet Farmers Market on Saturday morning, the Averitt Center will have a salsa competition. Purchase a bag of chips for $5 and taste up to 12 salsa recipes, then vote on your choice for the best salsa. The market takes place from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Sea Island Bank lot at 2 E. Main St.

In addition, before the show on Saturday, the Averitt will host a Southern Hospitality BBQ Fundraiser. Starting at 5 p.m., enjoy a barbecue dinner, live music, a cake walk and entertainment by the Bulloch County Square Dancers on Siebald Street, outside the center. The winners of the salsa competition will also be announced. Tickets are $15 each.
