Veterans of all wars and service branches are invited to bring their families to enjoy a cookout, hosted by the American Legion Dexter Allen Post 90.
The "All American Veteran Cookout" will be held Saturday at the Legion post at 100 Rucker Lane (off Highway 301 South) from 4–6 p.m., according to information provided by Legion Post 90 member Bob Marsh, who organized the event.
"It is just a way to give back to the community," said Post 90 Commander Marvin Grimm, "a way to honor veterans — a low-key picnic."
Post 90 member and former post commander Skip Campbell said the event for veterans and their families only will include hot dogs and hamburgers and fun, including door prizes — "just good family fun."
If weather allows, inflatable jump houses will be available for children, Grimm said.
The event is restricted to veterans and their immediate families and is not open to the public. The American Legion Post 90 has been hosting the annual picnic and cookout for about four years, Campbell said.
There is no cost to veterans and their families, Grimm said.
"This is just a 'Thank you for serving, guys.' The event is a simple but genuine gesture to show appreciation for service to the country and to recognize veterans of all ages and of all wars," he said.
