Statesboro Police are seeking answers to questions surrounding a reported armed robbery and physical attack Friday at an apartment complex near Georgia Southern University.
The male victim told detectives he gave an unknown female a ride to Park Place Apartments around 8:30 p.m. Friday. Once he delivered her to an apartment, he said an unknown man approached him, waving a hand gun, and robbed him of his wallet, which contained $800, according to reports.
Then, the alleged offender struck the victim in the head with the gun, leaving a "laceration and a serious contusion (bruise)," the reporting officer said.
The victim, although visibly injured, declined offers to be treated by Emergency Medical Service technicians, and signed a waiver dismissing the EMTs, reports stated.
After further inquiries Monday regarding the incident, Statesboro Police Capt. Scott Brunson said the case remains under investigation, and that Det. Sgt. James Winskey of the Statesboro Police Criminal Investigations Division is still seeking answers to questions surrounding the incident.
There has been a significant rise recently in armed robberies, burglaries and automobile break-ins around the Georgia Southern University area. The approach of the holiday season, with many students leaving town for the holidays, as well as the economy, are possible reasons for the increase in crime, Statesboro Police Chief Stan York has said.
Anyone with information about this reported armed robbery or any other crime is asked to contact Winskey at (912) 764-1542 or the Statesboro Police Department at 764-9911.
