2nd arrest made in strong-armed robbery
Reginald Lamar Gordon

A second man has been arrested in connection with a July 16 incident in which a man was robbed of his cellphone and shoes, police said.

Bennie Lee Simmons Jr., 30, of Fort Valley, was arrested Wednesday by the Peach County Sheriff’s Office on a Statesboro Police Department warrant charging him with strong arm robbery and aggravated battery, Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said in a news release issued Friday.

Reginald Lamar Gordon, 22, of Lanier Drive, was arrested July 30 on the same charges.

The victim, Jeremy Jamario Small, got into a vehicle with an acquaintance and was driven to an unknown apartment complex or dormitory. Two other men were waiting for him there, without his knowledge, Turner said in a new release issued July 31, announcing Gordon’s arrest.

The men attacked Small and took his shoes and cellphone. The acquaintance then drove Small to Walmart and left him there. Small suffered injuries to his head and face, Turner said.

Through further investigation, Detective Tommy Brown identified Gordon as one of the attackers, Turner said.

Anyone with information concerning this case is asked to contact Brown at the Statesboro Police Department at (912) 764-9911. Anonymous tips may be submitted online at or by sending a text message beginning with “TIPSSPD” to 274637 (CRIMES). All information is strictly confidential.
